Hilo High JROTC
Hilo High School's JROTC Field Training Exercise (FTX) was truly an exterience to remember. On the grounds of Keaukaha Military Reservations, the cadets of HHS JROTC had a full experience of what the military is about in just two days. The FTX was an orientation for new comers, like me to better understand the general JROTC topics and to prepare the cadets for the Cadet Formal Inspection (CFI)
From the moment I got there, the staff didn't waste ant time. They got us into mass formation. We were separated into two platoons and in each platoon there were two squads. It was essential for us to interact with our squad members, because we soon learned in future activites our chemistry and communication was essential to form a successful team. I realized, we didn't learn dy the staff telling us what to do , but we leard by actually doing.
There were many teamwork activities. Each activitiy strengthened our knowledge and ourteam bonding. We were given classes in color gard, team building, first aid, chain of command, drill and ceremany, P.T. and 15 count manual. My favorite part was the motivation competitions. It was an opportunity to yell loud and show how proud we are to be HHS JROTC cadet!
The staff was very professional. They took on a huge amount of tasks and deserve praise for being great role models to us LET 1s. They were able to conduct lessons and answered any questions the cadets had. They made the experience as fun and enjoyable as possible. We got to be competitive by playing tug of war and other games. We had the chance to dine like real soldiers by eating Meal Ready to Eat (M.R.E). It was an unforgettable meal.
Overall, the cadets and I gained the knowledge and confidence of what a cadet should have. I was hesitant to go to the FTX, but after attending, I would highly recommend it to every other new comer. Because of FTX, I am now a Private first class. It was like a head start of what is about to come. I am forever greatful.
